Weekly Nutrition tip #5

Carbohydrates

Getting enough carbohydrates in today's america, is really not all that hard. The only issue is getting the right kind of carbohydrates in one's winter time nutrition. One easy why to make sure you are getting real carbohydrate and not highly processed ones that are created in a lab, is to buy only products which do not have a million things on the ingredients list. also even though most people have heard this one before it still holds true is if you don't know what an ingredient is then don't buy it.

Weekly Nutrition tip #4

Hydration:

Many people during the winter time who run out side in Minnesota know that even in the winter one needs to still make sure their hydration is up to par. how ever they may not know why. Even though hydration is not as high during these months, it still needs to be watched. what happens during the winter is, that the water content in the blood is thickened be cause of the cold. and in order to ensure it does not thicken to much having adequate fluids is key to make sure that your blood vessels do not enough time to slow and in turn cause any water or other fluids in your blood to freeze and damage the rest of your systems through clots and fluid crystallization. so make sure your hydration levels are in check and safe in the winter while running out side.

Weekly Nutrition Tip #3

When a doctor Say's that you need to vary your diet, the reason behind this is, most nutrients are in most foods, the catch though is that your body cant access some of these nutrients is some forms but can in others. like calcium for instance. did you know that spinach has large amounts of calcium. The only thing is though your body can't access it, because spinach also carries a compound called oxalate which is attracted to and binds to the calcium creating an outer shell around the nutrient. In turn oxalate is a non harmful element which just can't be broken down by the body and because of this, the body can't absorb calcium from spinach cause of the oxalate. This does not mean you shouldn't eat spinach, in fact you should keep eating it, because spinach is a vegetable which has large amounts of protein in it, in turn should be consumed for all the other nutrients in it just not for calcium.

Weekly Nutrition Tip #2

Even though Minnesotans have a higher risk of a Vitamin D deficiency don't try to compensate through taking suppliments. It is a good idea to take supplements when you can't get needed vitamins and minerals naturally from your diet or surroundings. But make sure that there is no better way to get your vitamin D intake before going to the vitamin isle in your grocery store or your choice of place to get supplements. Also please check with your medical provider before self diagnosing, even if you are a doctor or medical provider please get a second opinion to make sure. So make sure you get checked to see if you're deficient before hand.
